中性脂肪は、蓄積されると体脂肪の元となります。
中性脂肪と同じ脂質の一つで、血液中を中性脂肪と一緒に運ばれるのが、コレステロールです。
中性脂肪もコレステロールも、体に貯まり過ぎると高脂血症を発症し、体の害になる点では同じなのですが、その役目は異なったものがあります。
中性脂肪には、体温を逃がさない、人間の臓器を固定し安定させる、衝撃緩和材として外部の衝撃から体を守る、などの働きがあります。
体内の余分な脂質・糖質・たんぱく質は、中性脂肪となって必要に応じて脂肪酸となり、エネルギーとして代用されるため、エネルギー貯蔵庫としての働きもあります。
